The 2027 Honda Civic Type R gets changes to the suspension, brakes, aerodynamics and interior. The hot hatch also gets more standard equipment, while European buyers will not get the updated model.
Honda is releasing its 2027 Civic Type R in America, which features an updated front end. Honda has made the grille larger and added a deeper front splitter. These updates will allow for better airflow and less turbulent air at the front of the vehicle, helping the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine remain cool while being driven hard.
The deeper splitter also adds downforce. Honda has revised the suspension damping in +R mode to improve road-following performance while reducing bouncing and impact harshness. According to Honda, the changes improve stability and handling when the Civic Type R is driven hard.
Mechanical Changes
Honda has also made changes to the brake pedal. A new yoke spring reduces play in the linkage and gives the pedal a more direct feel.
The rev-matching system has also been revised. It now responds faster during downshifts. The Civic Type R continues to use a manual transmission, keeping the car focused on driver involvement.
Honda is also adding Meteorite Gray Metallic to the 2027 Civic Type R color lineup.
Inside, heated front seats now come standard. Honda has also added Ultrasuede to the upper dashboard and front door panels, along with new diamond-pattern trim on the dashboard.
The aluminum shift knob, console trim, and door handles now use darker finishes. The climate controls and knobs also get black finishes. The center console adds two USB-C ports above the existing wireless smartphone charger.

More Standard Equipment
The Honda Civic Type R (2027) will have an auto-dimming rearview mirror and an update to the driver-assistance systems. The Adaptive Cruise Control System, Lane Keeping Assist System, and Collision Mitigation Braking System have all received improvements. Post-Collision Braking is a new option for the Honda Civic Type R.
Built-in Google Services are now included in the Honda Civic Type R. Google Maps and Google Play are two of these services. All of this additional equipment gives the Honda Civic Type R more features for regular use, but still keeps it focused on performance. The starting MSRP of the Honda Civic Type R (2027) is $48,695. The total price, including the $1,295 destination charge, is $49,990.
This is $1,300 higher than last year’s model year, however, Honda has added additional standard equipment and made some hardware changes to the vehicle.
Honda plans to have the updated Civic Type R at US dealerships later this month.

The Civic Type R Is Dead in Europe
The 2027 Honda Civic Type R is being sold in the United States, and Honda is discontinuing the Civic Type R in Europe. Honda states that the discontinuation is due to increased emissions standards and requirements for the models of vehicles sold by Honda to comply with new regulations.
Honda previously said the Civic Type R was being discontinued as its lineup needed to evolve to meet changing legislation. The result is that the Civic Type R receives updates in the US while European buyers are losing access to the model.
The Toyota GR86 and Subaru BRZ have also been affected by stricter European regulations. The Mazda MX-5 Miata has also lost its 2.0-liter engine in the UK.
Honda Is Working on a Hardcore Edition
Honda has also shown the HRC Concept, which points toward a more aggressive version of the Civic Type R.
The HRC version is expected to bring a more aggressive design and additional mechanical changes. If Honda puts it into production, it would sit above the regular Civic Type R and carry a higher price.
The 2027 Honda Civic Type R is coming to the U.S. with a number of improvements, including changes to the vehicle’s chassis, braking system, interior design and technology; all of which are in addition to the use of an existing 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and manual transmission. Unfortunately, this means European customers who previously purchased the Civic Type R will not be able to do so in the future.
