2027 Nissan Kicks Rock Creek is the newest addition to Nissan’s subcompact SUV lineup, bringing a more rugged appearance and a few extra driving features without changing the Kicks’ mechanical hardware.
Based on the SV trim, Rock Creek adds standard all-wheel drive, a dedicated off-road drive mode, hill-descent control and a roof rack with crossbars rated to carry up to 165 pounds. Nissan also gives it unique exterior trim, 17-inch wheels and several interior upgrades.
The regular 2027 Kicks starts at $24,335, while the Rock Creek carries a $30,385 starting price. That makes it the most expensive version in the 2027 Kicks range.
2027 Nissan Kicks Rock Creek Gets a Different Look
The 2027 Nissan Kicks Rock Creek is designed to stand apart from the other Kicks trims.
Nissan starts with the SV and adds a set of 17-inch wheels with a Rock Creek-specific design. Black trim is used on the exterior mirrors and bumpers, while the front end gets a unique grille and amber daytime running lights.
The most obvious addition is the chunky roof rack.
The rack and crossbars can support up to 165 pounds, giving owners a place to carry equipment that may not fit inside the Kicks. Nissan has not announced whether that rating applies while the vehicle is moving or only to a stationary load, so the published figure should be treated as the manufacturer’s stated capacity.
Rock Creek also carries its own exterior treatment rather than simply receiving a badge and a different wheel design.
AWD Comes Standard
All-wheel drive is standard on the 2027 Nissan Kicks Rock Creek.
That separates Rock Creek from the front-wheel-drive versions of the Kicks and gives Nissan’s smallest SUV a configuration better suited to loose or slippery surfaces.
The addition of AWD does not come with a new engine or suspension setup. Nissan has kept the mechanical package largely unchanged from the standard Kicks.
Ground clearance is also unchanged at 8.4 inches.
That figure is slightly below the 8.7 inches offered by the Subaru Crosstrek, one of the vehicles Nissan is likely to encounter when shoppers compare small SUVs with a more outdoors-oriented design.
Rock Creek Adds an Off-Road Drive Mode
Although there are no mechanical changes underneath, Nissan has added an off-road driving mode to Rock Creek.
The system allows more wheel slip from the traction control system, according to Nissan. That can help when the vehicle is traveling across loose surfaces where completely restricting wheelspin can make it harder to maintain momentum.
Rock Creek also gets hill-descent control.
The system is designed to help control vehicle speed when traveling down steep surfaces, reducing the need for constant brake input.
Neither feature turns Kicks into a serious off-road vehicle. The unchanged 8.4-inch ground clearance and lack of mechanical upgrades make that clear. Nissan is instead giving the Rock Creek a set of electronic driving features to complement its AWD system and more rugged appearance.
No Changes to the Powertrain
The 2027 Nissan Kicks Rock Creek does not receive a more powerful engine.
Nissan has not made mechanical changes specifically for this trim. The Rock Creek package is primarily an equipment and appearance upgrade built around the Kicks SV.
That is an important distinction because the trim’s off-road appearance could suggest a more substantial suspension or drivetrain upgrade.
Instead, Nissan has concentrated on AWD, drive-mode programming, hill-descent control and equipment that makes the vehicle more suitable for carrying outdoor gear.
Interior Gets Rock Creek Equipment
Nissan also gives the Rock Creek a different cabin treatment.
The seats use unique upholstery, while Rock Creek logos appear on the floor mats.
The trim also includes several features that are optional on other Kicks models, including:
- Ambient interior lighting
- 360-degree camera system
- Heated steering wheel
- Heated front seats
- Heated exterior mirrors
The equipment helps explain why Rock Creek carries a significantly higher price than the standard Kicks SV AWD.
Rather than limiting the package to exterior styling, Nissan has bundled several comfort and convenience features into the highest-priced Kicks configuration.
2027 Nissan Kicks Rock Creek Costs $30,385
The 2027 Nissan Kicks Rock Creek starts at $30,385.
That is $2,350 more than the Kicks SV AWD.
The standard 2027 Kicks starts at $24,335, putting Rock Creek $6,050 above the lineup’s entry price.
That makes Rock Creek the most expensive Kicks trim for the 2027 model year.
The additional cost brings standard AWD, the Rock Creek exterior treatment, roof rack and crossbars, off-road drive mode, hill-descent control and the additional interior equipment.
Nissan has not positioned Rock Creek as a performance model. Instead, it sits at the top of the Kicks range with the equipment package and styling intended to give the small SUV a more rugged character.
Rock Creek Uses the Same 8.4-Inch Ground Clearance
Despite its appearance, the 2027 Nissan Kicks Rock Creek does not sit higher than the regular Kicks.
Ground clearance remains 8.4 inches.
That is worth keeping in mind when looking at the new trim’s roof rack, black exterior trim and off-road drive mode. Nissan has changed the equipment and driving electronics, but it has not added additional clearance.
The Subaru Crosstrek has slightly more ground clearance at 8.7 inches, giving it an advantage when rougher terrain is involved.
Rock Creek is therefore better understood as a more adventure-oriented version of Kicks rather than a heavily modified off-road model.
The Roof Rack Is One of Rock Creek’s Main Additions
The roof rack gives the 2027 Nissan Kicks Rock Creek one of its most recognizable visual changes.
The rack is paired with crossbars and can carry up to 165 pounds.
That creates additional space for outdoor equipment without using the Kicks’ cabin or cargo area.
Nissan has not announced a full list of accessories that can be mounted to the rack, but its inclusion fits the Rock Creek’s overall design direction.
The combination of AWD, roof-mounted carrying capacity and an off-road mode gives the trim a different purpose from a conventional Kicks SV.
When Does the 2027 Nissan Kicks Rock Creek Arrive?
Nissan says the 2027 Nissan Kicks Rock Creek will begin reaching dealerships this summer.
The company has announced the $30,385 starting price and the equipment included with the trim, but additional details about options and final availability may vary by market.
Rock Creek joins the existing Kicks lineup rather than replacing another trim.
Nissan Expands the Kicks Lineup
The Rock Creek name is not new to Nissan.
Nissan already uses the designation on larger SUVs such as the Rogue and Pathfinder. Bringing it to Kicks gives the smallest SUV in Nissan’s lineup a version with similar visual cues and additional equipment.
The formula is familiar: black exterior trim, distinctive wheels, roof-mounted equipment and technology designed for driving on less-than-perfect surfaces.
The Kicks version is more modest than a purpose-built off-road SUV, however. There are no mechanical changes, the ground clearance remains 8.4 inches and Nissan has not added a dedicated off-road suspension.
The 2027 Nissan Kicks Rock Creek instead combines existing Kicks hardware with standard AWD and electronic driving aids.
2027 Nissan Kicks Rock Creek vs. Standard Kicks
The difference between Rock Creek and the less expensive Kicks trims is mostly equipment.
The entry-level Kicks starts at $24,335. Rock Creek starts at $30,385 and includes AWD as standard.
Rock Creek also gets the roof rack, unique 17-inch wheels, black exterior trim, amber daytime running lights, a different grille and additional interior equipment.
The off-road mode and hill-descent control are also exclusive to the more rugged trim.
There is no corresponding increase in ground clearance, and Nissan has not introduced a different engine or suspension setup.
That keeps Rock Creek firmly within the Kicks lineup rather than turning it into a separate off-road model.
A More Rugged Kicks Without a Mechanical Overhaul
The 2027 Nissan Kicks Rock Creek takes a familiar subcompact crossover and gives it a different purpose through equipment rather than extensive mechanical changes.
Standard AWD is the biggest functional addition. The off-road mode and hill-descent control add electronic assistance, while the roof rack provides space for additional gear.
The styling changes are more extensive, with unique 17-inch wheels, black exterior trim, amber daytime running lights and a different grille.
Inside, Nissan adds Rock Creek upholstery and floor mats along with ambient lighting, a 360-degree camera, heated steering wheel, heated seats and heated mirrors.
At $30,385, Rock Creek sits well above the $24,335 entry-level Kicks but also becomes the most comprehensively equipped version of Nissan’s smallest SUV.
Nissan says the 2027 Nissan Kicks Rock Creek will start arriving at dealerships this summer. It does not gain the ground clearance or mechanical hardware of a dedicated off-road SUV, but its standard AWD, electronic off-road features and roof-carrying equipment give the Kicks a noticeably different role within Nissan’s lineup.
