Dead Cars 2027: BMW Z4, Lexus LC, GR Supra and 18 More Models Gone After 2026

Twenty-one vehicles end after 2026. Some will return. Several are gone for good. The BMW Z4, Lexus LC, Toyota GR Supra, and Tesla Model S are not just entries on a list. The rest is context.

The Ones Coming Back

Acura RDX — Dead Cars 2027: Temporary

One year off. The RDX returns as a 2028 model — confirmed hybrid, new generation. Its absence is a gap, not an ending.

Cadillac CT5

Cadillac is working on a next-gen CT5 — no date, but the nameplate is not finished. It sits out 2027.

Volkswagen ID.4

The ID.4 exits and the ID.Tiguan arrives. Same vehicle, name buyers will recognise. Dead cars 2027 in nameplate only.

Gone But Replaced

Chrysler Voyager

Nameplate ends, role stays. Pacifica LX takes the Voyager’s entry slot in 2027, carrying the Voyager’s design rather than the refreshed Pacifica front end. Same seat, different badge.

Ford Escape

Ford’s compact crossover is done. The Bronco Sport stays as Ford’s remaining option in the segment — sportier styling, different character. Buyers who wanted a conventional compact Ford SUV without the trail aesthetic are without one.

Jaguar F-Pace

Last Jaguar in US showrooms. F-Pace gone, Type 01 not confirmed, gap in between with no date attached.

Electric Vehicles Leaving the US

BMW iX

The iX is a dead cars 2027 entry that deserved better timing — strong range, good ride, capable cabin as a battery-electric luxury SUV. Its exterior styling was polarising throughout its run, though a 2026 update improved things considerably. One year after that improvement, it is gone from the US. The iX continues in other markets.

Chevrolet BrightDrop

BrightDrop: started as its own brand, became a Chevy for 2025, done after 2026. GM ran the Express and Savana for over thirty years. The electric replacement lasted under six.

Honda Prologue

Two model years in the US. The Prologue was a Honda-badged electric SUV built on GM’s Ultium platform, a stopgap while Honda developed its own EV architecture. That architecture is arriving. The Prologue’s job is done.

Polestar 4

The Polestar 4 dead cars 2027 exit goes with the brand. Polestar as a whole lost its US Connected Vehicle waiver and exited North American sales. The Polestar 4 runs on different underpinnings from the Polestar 3 — no shared South Carolina factory, no obvious Volvo rebadge path. Its US return looks unlikely compared to the Polestar 3, which at least has a case to make.

Volvo EX30

The EX30 barely makes the dead cars 2027 cutoff — two years in the US market. The EX30 continues in Canada and internationally — the American departure is specific to this market, driven by regulatory and trade factors rather than any problem with the car. Small by American SUV standards, but genuinely interesting. US buyers lost access to it before most of them had a chance to consider it.

The Heavy Losses

BMW 8-Series

Coupe, convertible, Gran Coupe — the 8-Series is one of the larger dead cars 2027 departures, all three body styles ending together. The 8-Series was BMW’s performance flagship and carried the brand’s most ambitious styling of the current generation. No confirmed successor. No timeline for return. A notable hole in what BMW sells.

BMW Z4 — Dead Cars 2027: No Replacement Confirmed

This one stings. Three generations and over twenty years, and the Z4 ends without a replacement announced. The affordable roadster segment was already thin — Mazda MX-5, Porsche Boxster, Toyota GR86 as the nearest alternatives — and now it loses one of its few remaining options from a major German manufacturer. BMW has not indicated when or whether it re-enters this space.

Cadillac CT4

CT4-V Blackwing: 472 horsepower, twin-turbo V6, rear-wheel drive, 10Best winner. Ends with the rest of the CT4 line even though it earned more time.

Lexus LC — Dead Cars 2027: Genuine Loss

Nearly ten years on sale. The LC500 coupe and LC500 convertible end after 2026 — the LC500h hybrid version already ended a year earlier. What the LC represented was increasingly rare: a naturally aspirated V8 in a grand touring coupe, sending its exhaust note through a specific kind of intake and pipe architecture that turbocharged and electrified engines cannot replicate. It was not the quickest car in its segment. It was one of the most characterful. The dead cars 2027 list is longer because of this entry.

Lexus LS

The LS is the dead cars 2027 entry with the most history behind it — it launched Lexus in 1989. The LS walked into an American market where German luxury dominated and changed the assumptions buyers had about what Japanese manufacturers were capable of building. Decades later, its discontinuation leaves Lexus’s sedan lineup at two models — IS and ES — both considerably smaller and less expensive than the LS. Whether a next-generation LS returns has not been addressed.

Tesla Model S — Dead Cars 2027: Most Consequential Exit

Twelve years, multiple major updates, and it ends. The Model S was not Tesla’s first car but it was the car that made Tesla’s case to the broader market — that a battery-electric vehicle could outperform and out-feature a premium German sedan, not just match it. The 2012 launch changed the industry’s assumptions about what was possible. Its ending in 2026 arrives without much ceremony, which does not match what the car accomplished.

Tesla Model X

Dead cars 2027 includes the Model X after a decade-plus on sale. The Model X was the first mass-market three-row electric SUV and remained essentially the only viable option in that configuration for much of its run. With the X gone, Tesla loses its three-row option in the US market. A larger Model Y with three rows has been reported as a future product, but no confirmed date exists for American buyers.

Toyota GR Supra — Dead Cars 2027: Gone Again

Seven model years. That is all. The GR Supra came back in 2020 after a 21-year absence — a revival that enthusiasts had waited for long enough that expectations had built beyond anything the car could reasonably meet. It turned out to be a solid sports car despite the BMW engine controversy and the debates about authenticity. Seven years is not enough. And the dead cars 2027 list now includes the Supra again, which means the next wait starts now. History suggests it will be a long one.

Other Departures

Audi RS7

Last of the A7 variants. The A7 liftback is gone, the RS7 was the final version, and the battery-electric A6 e-tron is what Audi points buyers toward now. Different character, different powertrain, different experience.

Volvo V90 — Dead Cars 2027: End of the Wagon Line

The V90 held on in Cross Country form — raised ride height, AWD, protective body cladding — after the standard wagon was discontinued. The Cross Country version ends for 2027. Volvo’s station wagon presence in the US is now finished.
