Land Rover Defender 2027 Drops the Four-Cylinder and Adds a Bold New Vertex Trim

Land Rover dropped the four-cylinder from the Defender lineup for 2027. Gone. The inline-six is now standard across every body style, a new Vertex trim joins the range with styling nobody will mistake for a base model, the 110 gets a six-seat option, and Namib Orange is back after vanishing from the colour chart years ago.

Here is what changed and what it costs in Land Rover Defender 2027.

The Four-Cylinder Is Out

The 2.0-litre turbo four is done. Land Rover ran it as the entry engine, now it is gone, and every Defender 90, 110, and 130 opens with the 3.0-litre inline-six instead.

Power stays at 296 horsepower but torque climbs to 346 pound-feet. Same number on the spec sheet, different engine underneath — and the six-cylinder suits a vehicle this heavy considerably better than the four ever did.

The 395-horsepower version of the inline-six carries over as the higher output option. The 5.0-litre supercharged V8 is a different story — it is not currently listed on Land Rover’s consumer configurator for 2027. Whether it has been quietly dropped or simply not yet updated on the site is unclear. Land Rover has not confirmed its status.

The Octa is untouched by any of this — it keeps its 626-horsepower twin-turbo V8, starts at $160,750, and can clear $186,000 once the options sheet gets involved.

New Vertex Trim — What It Is and What It Costs

The Land Rover Defender 2027 lineup adds the Vertex as a new trim level, and it is visually distinct from everything else in the range.

The Vertex gets its own front and rear bumpers — not carried over from any other trim. The lower body panels match the main body colour instead of sitting in black, which is a small change that reads much larger in person. Roof spoiler at the back. Yellow tow hooks on the rear bumper, yellow brake calipers at the front peeking through new 22-inch wheels. The yellow details are a signature — you will not see them on any other Defender.

The Vertex 90 starts at $90,450 — the same entry price as the X trim, which it closely rivals in specification. The Vertex 110 starts at $97,950. The Vertex 130 opens at $106,950.

Buyers who want some of the Vertex’s visual identity without the full trim price have an option. The X-Dynamic SE trim on the 110 and 130 now offers the new Extended Exterior Pack, which delivers similar bumper and body styling — but without the colour-matched lower section that makes the Vertex’s look complete. It is a close approximation, not a substitute.

2027 Land Rover Defender Pricing Across the Range

Starting prices for the Land Rover Defender 2027 range: 90 S at $62,950. 110 at $66,950. 130 at $75,950. Vertex adds considerably — $90,450 on the 90, $97,950 on the 110, $106,950 on the 130. Octa starts at $160,750 and that number grows quickly once specification choices start.

None of these include options. Land Rover’s options list is not modest.

Six Seats Now Available in the 110

The Defender 110 picks up a six-seat option for 2027 at $1,350. Second-row captain’s chairs replace the bench, a two-person third row fills the back, and the layout runs 2+2+2.

The 130 already handled extra passengers in its longer body. The 110 option gives buyers who want more seating without going up to the 130 an actual choice now.

Namib Orange Returns and New Colours Arrive

Namib Orange launched with the original 2020 Defender, got pulled at some point, and spent the years since being regularly requested by buyers who missed it. It is back on the options list for the Land Rover Defender 2027.

The Octa gains a new exclusive colour called Woolstone Green — a dark, saturated shade that fits the Octa’s performance positioning better than most standard Defender colours would.

A Gloss Protective Film joins the options list at $5,450. Previously the protective film only came in matte — which meant buyers with standard gloss paint had to either leave it unprotected or change the finish appearance. The gloss version fixes that.

New Accessories and Options Worth Knowing

The Land Rover Defender 2027 options list has grown, and a few additions stand out.

The Tail Door Gear Carrier — a rack that mounts to the rear door — is new for 2027 at $760. It is the kind of practical accessory that Defender buyers who actually use the vehicle off-road will find more useful than many of the lifestyle-oriented options. The Expedition Roof Light is a new $3,610 addition for buyers who need serious lighting for night-time off-road use or overlanding.

The existing Adventure, Explorer, and Urban packages continue alongside these additions. Land Rover has not simplified the options structure — if anything, the 2027 Defender gives buyers more to configure than before.

The Defender’s Position at JLR

The Defender outsells the Range Rover at JLR — which is notable given the Range Rover costs more and arguably carries more prestige. The Defender gets there by covering more ground: actual off-road use, family transport, urban buyers who want the look. The 2027 updates don’t change that identity. Stronger standard engine, a new trim that looks different from anything else in the range, more colour choices, a six-seat option in the 110. All pointing in the same direction.
