The Air Sapphire takes the Air sedan and adds a third motor, upgraded battery, and revised suspension. Output: 1,234 horsepower. 0-60 mph in under 2 seconds. The Gravity Sapphire — if that is what this turns out to be — would apply similar logic to the SUV body. Three motors, higher output, track-oriented tuning on a vehicle that already has Lucid’s best range and efficiency technology underneath.
Lucid has not confirmed the name, output, or pricing for the high-performance Gravity. August at Monterey answers those questions.
What Monterey reveals will matter beyond the specifications. Lucid needs positive press momentum. The company has faced consistent negative coverage about its finances, production shortfalls, and bankruptcy speculation. Revealing a 1,000-plus horsepower SUV at Monterey Car Week — one of the most-watched automotive events in the United States — changes the conversation, at least for a few weeks.
Lucid’s Financial Reality and Why New Products Matter
Lucid Motors is not in a comfortable position. The Earth Comes After the Cosmos
One detail in Napoli’s earnings call comments: the Lucid Cosmos is followed by a vehicle called the Earth. More traditional SUV shape — upright roofline, conventional SUV proportions rather than the Cosmos’s coupe profile.
Both build on the same mid-size platform. The Earth is for buyers who want the Lucid mid-size platform without the coupe roofline’s rear headroom compromises. Two body styles, one platform. BMW does it with X4 and X5. Mercedes with GLC Coupe and GLC. Lucid is running the same playbook.
No timeline for the Earth beyond “after the Lucid Cosmos.” If the Cosmos launches in late 2027, the Earth is likely 2028 or 2029 at earliest.
