Range Rover Sport Recall Affects 873 SUVs With Rear Subframe Crack Risk

Due to the potential presence of cracks in the rear subframe, JLR is conducting a safety recall on approximately 873 Range Rover Sports in the United States and U.S. Territories. The recalled vehicles are 2024 through 2026 models of the Range Rover Sport that were manufactured by JLR at its Solihull plant between October 3, 2023 and May 22, 2026.

This is being recalled under NHTSA campaign number 26V613. JLR is using recall numbers D165 and D166 for this particular Range Rover Sport recall.

The problem was traced to rear subframes supplied by Linamar Casting and Gestamp Assembly. JLR found that some subframes could have cracks that were not identified during the normal inspection process.

Which Range Rover Sport SUVs Are Covered

Jaguar Land Rover is recalling 873 Range Rover Sports that were produced during the years of 2024, 2025 and 2026 because of a manufacturing defect. The Range Rover Sports were manufactured at JLR’s Solihull Vehicle Assembly Plant in Solihull, England. The production date range for the Range Rover Sports being recalled was from October 3, 2023 to May 22, 2026.

Model year alone does not confirm whether a vehicle is affected. JLR used supplier records and its own production records to identify the vehicles included in the Range Rover Sport recall.

The NHTSA filing specifically describes the affected vehicles as certain Range Rover Sport SV models. Owners can find out if they have a Range Rover Sport that has been affected by the Range Rover Sport recall using the NHTSA recall lookup and checking their vehicle identification number (VIN).

The recall was reported to NHTSA by JLR on September 24, 2026. The JLR Manufacturer Recall Numbers for the Range Rover Sport recall are D165 and D166.

How the Rear Subframe Can Crack

The problem starts with a forging defect in the rear subframe. On June 4, 2026, JLR identified a forging defect in a rear subframe at the supplier and quarantined the part.

JLR found that they had problems with their quality control checks in the production process after reviewing it. The affected area had a final machining process that would normally have removed any material from the area where a crack may be present; therefore, cracks were not usually found when manually inspecting the parts.

The company then reviewed thousands of production images to determine whether similar cracks were present in other rear subframes supplied to JLR. That review found a small number of vehicles with visible cracks, while production images for other vehicles could not be retrieved because of storage errors.

If the integrated rear subframe of your car develops a crack, then the crack could potentially compromise the structural integrity of your vehicle. The crack could continue to grow over time and eventually weaken the component, creating a potential safety issue.

No U.S. Accidents or Injuries Reported

JLR said it had not received any U.S. claims or field reports related to the problem when it submitted the recall.

The company also reported no accidents, injuries or fires in the United States related to the rear subframe issue.

JLR’s Product Safety and Compliance Committee reviewed the investigation in September. On September 11, engineering experts said they could not quantify the effect on vehicle operation because the cracks varied, but they could not rule out a risk to structural integrity.

On September 17, the company’s decision forum determined that the issue represented a safety risk and requested a recall.

How the Range Rover Sport Recall Will Be Fixed

The repair depends on what JLR finds during its inspection.

Vehicles already known to have a cracked rear subframe will receive a replacement subframe. JLR will handle those vehicles under recall number D165.

Some vehicles do not have enough production imaging available to confirm whether the rear subframe is free of cracks. Those vehicles will receive an inspection under recall number D166. If the dealer finds a crack, JLR will replace the rear subframe.

There will be no charge to owners for the inspection or replacement. JLR says the replacement components have gone through improved supplier validation processes.

The supplier also changed its production quality checks in June 2026. JLR says the process now includes high-resolution imagery to identify the issue before affected parts reach vehicles.

When Owners Will Be Notified

JLR plans to notify dealers about the Range Rover Sport recall on October 8, 2026.

Owner notification letters are scheduled to be distributed on or before November 20, 2026. The final remedy notifications will be sent in phases depending on the recall process for each vehicle.

Car owners will not need to wait for a letter from the manufacturer informing them about the recall on their vehicle. Instead, they can search by VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) on NHTSA.gov to find out whether or not their vehicle was included in the Range Rover Sport recall. It is also important to note that the Range Rover Sport recall on vehicles produced during those years does not apply to every Range Rover Sport.

What Range Rover Sport Owners Should Do

Owners of a 2024, 2025 or 2026 Range Rover Sport need to look up their VIN on the NHTSA Recall Database to determine whether they are affected by the Range Rover Sport recall. If the VIN indicates that the vehicle has an uncompleted recall, then the owner should contact a Land Rover dealership and make arrangements for the necessary check. Those who confirm that there is a crack in the rear subframe of their vehicle will have the subframe replaced free of charge.

The NHTSA filing lists inspection, replacement and repair as the remedies for this recall, depending on the vehicle and available production records. The filing also lists “Do Not Drive” and “Park Outside” under consumer advisories.

The Range Rover Sport recall has been restricted to 873 vehicles; however, the problem with the recalled part is that it is an integral part of the structure of the vehicle. The easiest method to check if a specific Range Rover Sport was recalled will be to look up the VIN.
